A great year of sport in LCFE comes to an end and I must say it was incredibly enjoyable, the highs the lows and to finish with a bit of glory made it all the better.
Friday March 8th saw the second annual LCFE v Central College soccer tournament. Two teams from each college’s Sports Departments would go to battle to win the coveted trophy.
Last year LCFE missed out on the trophy on a penalty shootout. The venue was the UL Sports Arena and the tension was high.
The day itself was great fun with plenty of bite in each game. LCFE 1 lost the group match against Central 1 but we were a different team in the final. They got their tactics right and served up a fine team performance with plenty of drama. The score was tied at 1-1 and with 10 or so seconds left. LCFE 1 were awarded a penalty.
Up stepped the LCFE 1 captain Cian O Grady and a save for the ages from the Central 1 goalkeeper made sure the drama wasn’t going to stop there. We were going to penalties and each team would have 5 each. LCFE 1 goalkeeper Callum Duffy played a blinder saving 3 penalties and LCFE were not going to be denied slotting away 3 penalties and making sure this sporting year would end with some silverware.
Great to see the two colleges mixing it up but the green of LCFE wanted to finish the year on a high and they did us proud. Roll on next year when we hope to add to our success!
