Course Overview
This one-year course is aimed at people whose first language is not English and who would like to develop their English skills for a career in Information and Communication Technology. The course offers a QQI Level 4 IT award and will equip the learner with the bridging skills and knowledge of competencies in the use and application of a broad range of information and communication technologies. The learner may go directly into employment or progress to further studies in this career area. Before starting the course, applicants will do an English language assessment to ensure they are placed at the correct level.

Introduction to Key Skills
- Education: Applicants should have a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 3 when accessing a Level 4 programme. Applicants may have participated in primary and secondary education although no formal qualifications are required.
- Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
- Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.
1.To provide learners with the knowledge, skill and competences in a broad range of information and communication technology skills which may lead to employment or further study.
2.To allow an exploration of Information and Communication Technologies as used in Business, Administration and ICT in Creative and Multi-media.
3.To facilitate the learners to develop a future career plan including options for progression into employment and/or further education and training,
4.To facilitate the learner to upskill in technology that may interest them in a future career in this area.
5.To develop the key competences and employability skills necessary to engage fully in employment, social and civic life. These skills include the ability to express and interpret concepts in oral and written form, digital competence , numerical competence, critical thinking, creativity, initiative, problem-solving, learning to learn, self-management etc.
6.To provide a flexible programme of learning where the learner can improve their English language skills as well as a broad range of IT skills.
