Course Overview
This one-year course is aimed at people whose first language is not English and who would like to develop their English skills for a career in the healthcare system. The course offers a QQI Level 4 award with the opportunity to study some essential Level 5 modules. It will equip the learner with the bridging skills and knowledge to go directly into employment or to progress to further studies in these career areas. They will also improve their everyday communication skills. Before starting the course, applicants will do an English language assessment to ensure they start at the correct level.

- Education: Applicants should have a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 3 when accessing a Level 4 programme. Applicants may have participated in primary and secondary education although no formal qualifications are required.
- Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
- Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work under direction with some ability to work on their own initiative
- The aim of this course is to provide learners with an opportunity to engage in a flexible programme of learning, while also improving their English language skills.
- The course allows for the development of skills and knowledge relating to healthcare. Specifically, they will acquire an understanding of the roles, activities, relationships and safety measures that will enable them to work or to progress their studies in healthcare.
- They will also improve their ability to express and interpret concepts in oral and written form as well as digital competence, numerical competence, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
